Waves Doula Care

Hello Friend!

My name is Lauren and I am a holistic doula serving the South Austin to New Braunfels region. I offer support, advocacy, and education to mothers and partners looking to create their dream birth experience starting with pregnancy and birth, building a relationship to last a lifetime! I would love nothing more than to be another shoulder to lean on during this amazing life transition.

My passion to become a birthworker started with the breech birth of my first daughter. I dreamed of a natural birth at the local birth center, however the universe had other plans. At 37 weeks the midwife at my birth center started really pushing me to schedule a c section, painting a picture of how “lovely” a planned c section could be. Deep in my heart I knew that was not the path for myself or my baby. I was ultimately fired from my provider with little guidance at 38 weeks, and found a new provider who allowed me the space for my natural birth. My daughter was born butt first in perfect health in San Antonio, TX. Going through this taught me so much about a mother’s intuition, fueling my passion to support other mothers in their journey to empowered motherhood.

Previous to becoming a doula, I've dedicated 7 years in personal training with certification in pre and postnatal fitness. I have trained many body types in various stages of fitness and life, so I know the importance of meeting someone where they are. There is no “one size fits all” option in birth or fitness and with movement being so beneficial during pregnancy, I'll help you find a rhythm that works for you through the various stages.

I look forward to being at your side through everything this journey puts in your path, supporting you with different tools to care for yourself through pregnancy, advocacy for yourself in difficult moments, and reminders of strength as you move through birth and postpartum.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a doula and what do they even do??

I like to consider myself another member of your team! I am there to support YOU whether that is through education, advocacy, or physical/mental support in labor. We will meet twice before your birth to prepare and educate you and your partner. I will then be with you through the entirety of your labor and birth. Finally I will visit you twice in postpartum to help you make the beautiful transition into motherhood. I will always be available for any questions that come up throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond!

How is a doula different from a midwife?

A midwife is a medical professional whereas a doula is a trained support person there for you emotionally and physically through labor.

Are doulas only for home birth?

Absolutely not! I will be there for you no matter where you give birth whether in the hospital, birth center or in your home! A doula is useful in any location and is very helpful in making sure you have/get all the information to give informed consent and make the best decisions for you and your family!

What happens if I am not available when you go into labor?

I will be on call starting at 37 weeks however I do have a family and we love to explore and get away every once in awhile. I want to enjoy life just as much as everyone else! I will always have a back up doula set up for you that will be able to step in if I am not available for some reason. We will talk more about this during the first prenatal appointment so I can make sure I have someone lined up that will be a good fit for you.

How does payment work?

I will take 50% of your payment upon booking. Then I will request the other 50% after our second prenatal session.

What are the benefits of having a doula?

Studies suggest that doula care can lead to better birth outcomes, including:

  • Fewer C-sections

  • Shorter labor

  • Less pain medication during labor

  • Less anxiety and depression for mothers

  • Fewer negative childbirth experiences

  • Higher newborn Apgar scores

  • Greater satisfaction with the birthing process

……How could you possibly say no to having a doula after reading that????
